Stem cell research is done on stem cells to study various diseases. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells which can change into any specialized cell in body. Stem cells are also used these days for organ transplants.

Stem cells for research are taken from spare embroys that remain after in vitro fertilization (IVF). In IVF many ova are fused with sperms to form embryos.. and some of them are implanted in the uterus.

The spare embryos are used for stem cell research. They can also be used for organ transplantation.

For organ transplantation, stem cells from persons own body can also be used. They are less susceptible to rejection by the patient’s body. However, if stem cells from a donor have to be used for organ transplants, embryonic stem cells are a better option.

There are several ethical issues involved around stem cell research. People against it say that we are killing the embryos for our purpose. However, the fact is that if we don’t use them, they are gonna die anyways!!!! So why not take permission from the parents and make gud use of their embryos!!!!

Hi

We have to find a case study for our next module.. was wondering what a case study exactly is????

According to my understanding.. case study can be anything.. anything that u can analyse.. anything that u can think upon.. anything that can be a nice example to have gud understanding of the related subject…

For example, if I have to find a case study for in-vitro fertilization, it wud be something special that has happened in in-vitro fertilization. May be somebody has used a new technique, which might be better or at par with other already present techniques. Or it can be some advancement like these days much older women arnd 50-60 years are also giving birth to children with help of IVF (in-vitro fertilization). If I study IVF and then study this partucular case, and analyse it.. see its pros and cons, it can be a case study for me.

When I searched on net, I found similar explanation.. but in a difficult language..

It is as simple as that… Case study is watever u wanna study in detail to get a holisitc understanding of the subject… crtically analyse it… may be u can see wat went wrong.. or how cud the particular thing fail or succeeded…

What do u think??? Is there more to it?? I wud luv to know…
