I am starting this new category today. We will be talking about wellness here.

To start with I would tell what wellness is all about. As the name suggests, wellness means being healthy. When our body is so healthy that we don’t fall sick and don’t have to go to a doc, it means we are moving towards wellness.

Now many of us will think.. How is it possible that we never fall sick. Everybody falls sick and has to go to a doc some day. Right, we do fall sick. However, if you notice around yourself, we have started falling much more frequently, severly and at a much younger age then our ancestors. The reason for the same is our lifestyle.

We don’t eat properly, though the rate of obesity is increasing at a horrifying rate, we are not healthy coz we don’t get the amount of nutrition that our body needs. This leads to a lot of diseases. The major ones are heart diseases, diabetes and mental disorders. Apart from this, there are a number of diseases that we see more frequently around ourselves. We need to change our lifestyle a bit to save ourselves and future generations from this disaster.

To start with, we need to balance the four pillars of health.

First pillar is “Adequate exercise”.

Second is “Rest”

Third is “Positive mental attitude”

And the fourth is “proper nutrition”

Next time we’ll talk about some statistics and these four pillars of health.

So stay tuned!!!!

Here are some tips for you to keep yourself safe from swine flu as well as the panic surrounding it.

Thanks a lot to Varun and Kanav for these useful and concisee tips.

Do go through these once. they’ll surely make you more aware about protecting yourself from being a victim of the pandemic.

Keep Swine Flu Away with Basic Precautions

Swine flu in India is spreading like wildfire, taking the toll to six. Officials say there are currently more than 800 cases of the H1N1 flu strain in India. Governments from all around the world are finding ways to combat this deadly disease. So what can you do to protect yourself? Stay calm and practice these effective prevention tips.

1. Wash your hands frequently

Use the antibacterial soaps to cleanse your hands. Wash them often, at least 15 seconds and rinse with running water.

2. Get enough sleep

Try to get 8 hours of good sleep every night to keep your immune system in top flu-fighting shape.

3. Keep hydrated

Drink 8 to10 glasses of water each day to flush toxins from your system and maintain good moisture and mucous production in your sinuses.

4. Boost your immune system

Keeping your body strong, nourished, and ready to fight infection is important in flu prevention. So stick with whole grains, colorful vegetables, and vitamin-rich fruits.

5. Keep informed

The government is taking necessary steps to prevent the pandemic and periodically release guidelines to keep the pandemic away. Please make sure to keep up to date on the information and act in a calm manner.

6. Avoid alcohol

Apart from being a mood depressant, alcohol is an immune suppressant that can actually decrease your resistance to viral infections like swine flu. So stay away from alcoholic drinks so that your immune system may be strong.

7. Be physically active

Moderate exercise can support the immune system by increasing circulation and oxygenating the body. For example brisk walking for 30-40 minutes 3-4 times a week will significantly perk up your immunity.

8. Keep away from sick people

Flu virus spreads when particles dispersed into the air through a cough or sneeze reach someone else’s nose. So if you have to be around someone who is sick, try to stay a few feet away from them and especially, avoid physical contact.

9. Know when to get help

Consult your doctor if you have a cough and fever and follow their instructions, including taking medicine as prescribed.

10. Avoid crowded areas

Try to avoid unnecessary trips outside. Moreover, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.

11. When you can’t avoid contact

All lab staff are requested to use triple layered face mask while working in lab. Study Coordinators and CRAs are expected to take precautionary measures (like wearing mask etc.) while travelling to sites.

There is no reason to panic and ensure that you exercise general caution to prevent the spread of infection.

While a man was polishing his new car, his 4 yr old son picked stone & scratched lines on the side of the car.

In anger, the man took the child’s hand & hit it many times, not realizing he was using a wrench.

At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child saw his father….
with painful eyes he asked

‘Dad when will my fingers grow back?’

Man was so hurt and speechless. He went back to car and kicked it a lot of times.
Devastated by his own actions…… sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches,
child had written ‘LOVE YOU DAD’.
The next day that man committed suicide. . .

Anger and Love have no limits, Choose the later to have a beautiful & lovely life ….

Things are to be used and people are to be loved,
But the problem in todays world is that,
People are used and things are loved…..

Got this mail today… Tank a lot to Dr. Dani

I was really touchd when I read this mail… Just thought to share with you all…

Give it a thought… It really deserves one…

We need to respect our relations and people around us…

Hi

I am back with corporate dressing etiquettes as I promised. So here are some Do’s and Don’ts about how you should dress while in office

First and foremost, keep in mind that it is your office not college or any fun time place. Keep your flashy clothes and jewellery for the weekends even if you are newly married girl!!!!

In some cultures it is essential to wear some jewellery especially for the newly weds ones. Just stick to basic requirements that you can’t avoid as in Punjabis it is mandatory to wear “chuda” and in some families a gold bangle or a “mangal sutra” too. If you can’t avoid them, just wear them but make sure you don’t put on flashy clothes and make up. Infact, “chuda” looks really cute when worn with simple dresses. Try it out!!!!

Now, some basic dressing rules

Formals for girls include the following

Trousers and Shirts

Cotton Salwar kameez, preferably “chooridar” Short knee-length or long formal skirts with formal shirts

Formal jacket for winters especially goes well with trousers and skirts

Saree in pastle colours, without flashy designs and pinned up properly

Wear small studs for earrings or very small hanging ones

No bangles, no danglers, no “jhumkey”!!!!!

For shoes, go for closed ones preferably. However, you can go for simple flats also.

No hair clips!!!!

Keep your hair short. If long, make sure you either tie them properly or maintain the hair cut it you like to keep them open.

For make up, wear nude make up. Nude make up comprise of peaches and light pinks.

No eye shadow for the day. It looks horrible!!!!

Put kajal if you like to.

Keep your make up to minimum.

For shirts, no fluorescent colours. Prefer pastle colours. If you like wearing dark colours, match them with light trousers and make sure they are not shining like a band uniform!!!!

Avoid wearing sleeveless unless you carry them off really well!!!!!!

It’s not as difficult as it sounds to be girls!!!!!

The basic idea behind the dressing rules is that it should not hamper your work and others too…

The other thing is it should make an impact on others. Everything counts when you are into professional life. Right from your attitude, knowledge to how you present yourself.

Your workplace might not have any strict dressing codes. However, following some of your own will definitely help you in climbing that corporate ladder. It will show your seriousness for work and life as a whole.

Now some rules for the guys too…

You can’t think of anything but a shirt and trousers.

Stay away from bright colours.

Make sure you match your socks with your pant!!! They should be of same colour

For ties, they should either be of the colour of your trousers or shirt. Atleast the shade should be matching and if you wanna wear some contrast colour, be sure it is not too eye catching.

Be simple and formal.

Pinks and mauves are not a NO NO for you. However, be careful when you chose these colours for yourself. They should suit you. You should be able to carry these colours well and let it be pastle colours.

Now some common rules for all

Make sure your clothes are clean and ironed and shoes must be clean and shining!!!!

Put a deo on!!!! Even if you bathe everyday and even if your office is fully A.C.

If you like wearing a perfume, never go for the cheap ones and don’t be too generous while applying the perfume

Try to stick on to similar fragrances.

Put the perfume on points like wrists, inside of your elbow, under your ears and side of neck. The idea is that at these points, the blood flow is higher and your perfume will stay for long.

Wear a simple watch it adds on to the effect.

Guys shave everyday. And girls.. stick to your weekend parlour visits. You may not want to go for those expensive beauty treatments, but make sure you look clean and happy!!!!

Many offices have Fridays as casual wear days. So some tips on the same

Friday dressing doesn’t mean you can turn up in your shorts or payjamas!!!!

Wear a denim with a t-shirt which is preferably collared one. If not, it must not contain any quote on it.

For girls, we know you have the sexiest clothes in town!!! But keep them for your weekends.. Weekends are not far away!!!!!

Be casual yet formal enough so that you can attend any short notice meeting with a client or the manager.

Clothes matter but without attitude they won’t matter!!!! So wear your attitude and let your clothes compliment you!!!!!!

Its too hot outside… and I got in mood to write this blog…

I don’t have much to say… just a thought to share…

Today in the office washroom I saw a girl… looking obssessively in the mirror… She looked at herself from almost every angle possible.. And God!!! What an attitude she had… it was overflowing from her eyes!!!!

He he he he.. I am not gossiping here.. just it made me think… how self obbsessed and may be self conscious we are about our looks… some people are too much that they forget what it takes to be a good human being…

Hmmmm… sounding like a granny advice????? Nope… I am no granny to advice you… just a viewpoint that I want to put here… the world around us has become so obssessed with looks and physique.. that we tend to forget what is more important… even people who never used to care about their looks are now so conscious that they forget how to enjoy their lives… I have seen this happeniing!!!!!

You go out with a girl and she would cry over every calorie she takes… not that I don’t care what I eat!! I do take care that I eat as healthy as I can.. but once I am enjoying.. chilling out with friends… Fun is all I care about….

Few weeks ago I read an interview with Kangna Ranaut… she said that you should be beautiful from inside and enjoy life.. as long as u r happy from inside a kg here and there doesn’t matter… how true… right????

Its not bad to be conscious about how u look and how u carry urself… after a certain point of time it gets important too…

However, we should know how much is required at what point of time….

This reminds me of one more thing… Since the day I have started going to office I have been noticing many people, especially girls not following corporate professional dressing…

May be they were never taught about it… may be I can share some important points with my friends which I learnt from my trainer in college…

So next time.. a few tips on Dos and Dont’s for dreessing up in office….

See ya guys…. keep surfing…

Hi…

I am writing this post after a long long time… I know… I am trying to be disciplined u know …

I remember my new year resolution and I guess I should start working on it…

Anyways… This time I am gonna start with a serious note…This morning I was going through the newspaper and came across an article which mentioned todays youngsters as -spendthrift, credit card addicted and a no-saving generation…

I know some people from our generation are not serious about their lives and future… but I don’t like generalizing this for all of them!!!!! I know many people who are quiet serious about themselves, their lives, their families and their responsibilities too… We might have a different way of showing our care and concern.. but we DO are sensitive!!!!

I have seen increasing bend of our generation towards spirituality.. I have seen people around me thinking to how to save money… I have seen people around me how to help their dad to pay off the loans he took for their studies!!!! Isn’t it something great guys????

We enjoy our lives… but at the same time we are connected to our roots too… I agree that BPO culture has given youngsters an easy way to earn but this doesn’t mean that BPOs are bad.. neither are these young people.. they lack direction… In some cases may be their families have not been able to guide them properly… but even then.. I would say that we can empathise with them.. I have seen a BPO girl working hard, studying and sending money to her family too!!!!!

May be the parents need to understand the need of the hour and start training their child to be independent and responsible a bit earlier than they think it is necessary…

Whatever be the reason.. I totally disagree with the generalization that people use for our generation.. there were exceptions in the older generations too…. and there are some in our generation too…

All said and done.. I think we need to be a bit more expressive and sensitive to the society…. Only then the society will accept us as a responsible generation….

Hi,

I am upset today. Not because somebody said something to me. I am just upset the way our young generation is taking things so easy!!!

Yesterday 8:30-9:30pm was Earth Hour and I sincerely hope that whoever is reading this did their best to put off their lights. Why I am hoping this? Because what happened yesterday and what I saw today in newspaper was quiet disheartening.

Yesterday at 8:30 we switched off lights in our room and as my roommate went to other part of the flat to switch off other lights, my flat mates were there with lights switched on. When she told them to switch off their lights she got a blunt reply “isse kya ho jayega (what difference does it make)”

Isse kya ho jayega???? I am wondering since last evening. What difference does it make??? Of course it does make a difference. Change in society, country or environment for that matter can’t be brought about by one person or a group. All of us have to make a small effort on our own part. We talk about changing nation. Our stars are asking us to vote. And here is our young generation telling us it doesn’t make a difference. Being a part of this generation, it hurts me. I don’t want our elders to think that we don’t care!!!! We do care!!! About them, about our country, about our society and about our environment. However, there are people who are taking things a bit too lightly.

I have been wondering what difference a politician can make when we don’t want to move a finger!!!!

We keep cursing our system, our politicians and everybody around us except OURSELVES!!!! I think we should first curse ourselves for all that we have not been able to change!!!! Do you think people like these (isse kya hoga typos) can choose a person worthy of being chosen. I wonder if they even care as long as they are comfortable in the coziness of their homes!!!!!

Where are we going?? Killing a Aman on the name of “introduction”, a Jigeesha and Saumya being unsafe in their own city, leaving that we are not safe with our own relations!!!!!

All this is quiet disturbing and disgusting. I should have been sitting and studying hard for my exam tomorrow but I just can’t until I vent out my heart.

Reading today’ newspaper I saw pictures from all over the world showing pictures of government buildings before and during earth hour. And guess what pictures India had to show!!! Instead of parliament house or some other government building, we had a picture of a 5-star hotel. Isn’t this disgusting? I don’t know if the lights were not switched off at any of our government official place or politicians’ house for that matter, or media was more interested in a 5-star hotel. They should have instead shown houses of politicians. I wish I could see if Gandhis and Thackreys followed the earth hour. God knows what went behind all this. But now I don’t know whom to hold responsible, whom to complain???

The problem is not only in the system but in each of our attitudes. If we want the system to be changed we have to start from ourselves. Change has to begin from home. People who don’t want to make an effort don’t have the right to complain.

Finally, I just want to say that we need to change ourselves before we think of changing the system. We have to be aware and sensitive to our surroundings. We have to think of environment and try to make the world a better place. Wake up guys!!!! It is us who can make the change. A small effort on each of our part will make the world change I am sure.

God Bless You All and May the Almighty be With You Always!!!!!!

AN AMUSING EXPERIENCE!!!!!

I have been always fond of pizzas J.. Back in Amritsar, it was my gang’s favorite hangout place.

When I came to Delhi in 2007, my visits to pizza huts reduced. The main reasons was lack of company J

No friend that I made here in Delhi is fond of Pizza L

However, sometimes my roommate and I order Pizza when we don’t feel like cooking.

Yesterday was one of those days. We ordered a Pizza which had not been delivered even 50 minutes after the order had been placed. The pizza hut people told us that it was due to some technical fault.

After an hour when we finally got our pizza at 11pm it was all cold!!!! They didn’t even bother to reheat it forget preparing again!!!! Somehow we didn’t feel like calling and yelling at them. But when we opened our portion of garlic bread, I couldn’t resist but call pizza hut people and tell them how disgusted I was feeling. I did exactly the same. That poor guy on the other side offered even to deliver again. But we had already had our pizza.

Then something unexpected happened. The pizza hut manager called us up to apologize. This call was totally unexpected and after few moments my roommate and I started having fun J

The manager offered to deliver pizza right then. But we declined his offer. He then gave us his personal number and told us to give him a call whenever we feel like eating pizza. I asked him if he was giving us this pizza for free . The response was ofcourse mam!!!!!

Then he offered us to deliver free icecreams and asked us which flavor would we like to have. Like two kids having fun we told him we wanted both the flavors they were offering!!!!

The most unexpected was still to come!!!! The manager himself came to deliver the icecreams at 11:15pm at night!!!! And he had two portions of each flavor for us!!!! I was both surprised and humiliated at this effort to make up for their mistake.

No I am not going to ask for a free pizza now!!!! But what they did was worth praising. This is what we called Customer Relationship Management. And it definitely left some sweet funny memories with us. And am sure the same as for them too

I hope our other organizations take some lesson form these guys… their effort was worth it!!!! And am now planning to place my next order soon!!!!! J

Three cheers to pizza hut!!!!!

Stem cell research is done on stem cells to study various diseases. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells which can change into any specialized cell in body. Stem cells are also used these days for organ transplants.

Stem cells for research are taken from spare embroys that remain after in vitro fertilization (IVF). In IVF many ova are fused with sperms to form embryos.. and some of them are implanted in the uterus.

The spare embryos are used for stem cell research. They can also be used for organ transplantation.

For organ transplantation, stem cells from persons own body can also be used. They are less susceptible to rejection by the patient’s body. However, if stem cells from a donor have to be used for organ transplants, embryonic stem cells are a better option.

There are several ethical issues involved around stem cell research. People against it say that we are killing the embryos for our purpose. However, the fact is that if we don’t use them, they are gonna die anyways!!!! So why not take permission from the parents and make gud use of their embryos!!!!

Hi

We have to find a case study for our next module.. was wondering what a case study exactly is????

According to my understanding.. case study can be anything.. anything that u can analyse.. anything that u can think upon.. anything that can be a nice example to have gud understanding of the related subject…

For example, if I have to find a case study for in-vitro fertilization, it wud be something special that has happened in in-vitro fertilization. May be somebody has used a new technique, which might be better or at par with other already present techniques. Or it can be some advancement like these days much older women arnd 50-60 years are also giving birth to children with help of IVF (in-vitro fertilization). If I study IVF and then study this partucular case, and analyse it.. see its pros and cons, it can be a case study for me.

When I searched on net, I found similar explanation.. but in a difficult language..

It is as simple as that… Case study is watever u wanna study in detail to get a holisitc understanding of the subject… crtically analyse it… may be u can see wat went wrong.. or how cud the particular thing fail or succeeded…

What do u think??? Is there more to it?? I wud luv to know…
